Van Leasing Review :

The Peugeot Partner

Today Stuart reviews the Peugeot Partner Professional to see if the small panel van offers up the economy, reliability and versatility promised by Peugeot!

Leasing a Peugeot

The previous version of the Peugeot Partner was good if a bit uninspiring. It did the job but not a whole lot more. Since then though competition in the small panel van market has seriously heated up. Models such as the new Renault Kangoo and Fiat Doblo offer a touch of style and refinement that has set the bar a whole lot higher than before.

This hasn’t gone unrecognised at Peugeot who have in turn released an updated model of the Partner. The design of the van is much more modern and striking and Peugeot are promoting the model under the 3 main features of economy, reliability and versatility. Today Stuart takes the higher spec Professional version of the Partner out for a spin and answers that all-important question – could a new Peugeot Partner be the perfect van lease for your business?

Size Matters

We tested the L1 version of the Partner Professional, which offers a 1800mm load length and twin, full-height rear doors. Side sliding doors come as standard on the L2 version but can also be added as an extra to the L1 version. We didn’t feel they were necessarily needed on the L1, which offers easy access to the full loading bay from the rear of the vehicle.

The Partner comes with a half-height solid bulkhead as standard but probably the neatest feature is the flat-folding passenger seats that fold down to offer an additional 1,200mm of load length for those one-off larger items.

Creature Comforts

Step inside the cab and you’ll be surprised at how spacious the Partner is for a van of its size. In fact it’s the only van in its class to offer a 3-seat configuration option, which is what we tested. The cab is spacious enough to carry the driver and 2 passengers for most standard journeys but if you’re travelling longer distances the middle seat is a bit too cramped. In 2-seat configuration mode the Partner offers all of the spaciousness and comfort you need for those long distance journeys. The seats offer great comfort and lumbar support, which is a big step up from the last model.

CD Player, Air Conditioning and Bluetooth Connectivity are just some of the extra features that come as standard on the professional spec model.

On the Road

The Partner is based on the Peugeot 308 platform which means you feel more like your driving a car than you do a commercial vehicle. The drive is refined, engine noise is minimal and the steering is both light and responsive. The range of diesel engines provide plenty of torque and power for a small panel van but most importantly they offer a really quite impressive 47.8 combined mpg figure. A van that economical with fuel will save you some serious money in comparison not only to the old Partner model but also many of the Partner’s main competitors.

The Verdict

Peugeot promised economy, reliability and versatility with the new Partner and they certainly haven’t disappointed. The Partner Professional is economical, a joy to drive and offers the flexible loading options you need from your light commercial vehicle. Overall it really is a great van leasing deal.
