Van Leasing Review :

The Citroen Berlingo

Today Stuart takes a look at the Citroen Berlingo to see how it stacks up against some pretty stiff competition

Citroen Lease

The Citroen Berlingo has always been a good van but in a marketplace crowded with good vans the Berlingo hasn’t always been the first to get noticed. The new Citroen however is slightly bigger than its predecessor. Perhaps more importantly it’s also bigger than its main competitors and comes with some great new features as standard. Today we took a look at the new Berlingo and ask that all-important question - could it be the perfect van lease for your business? Let’s find out:

Size Matters

The new standard length (L1) Berlingo has a load length of 1800mm, load width of 1,620mm and load height of 1,250mm. All this gives it a payload of 626kg, which for a van in the compact-sized market is pretty impressive.

The 180-degree twin rear doors make loading and unloading is a breeze and side-panelling protection comes as standard, which will offer your load the protection it needs at no extra cost. Probably the neatest little feature on the new Berlingo is the loading bay light that pulls out to turn into a torch. It can be unbelievably handy if you’re working in low light or trying to find a hidden item in your fully loaded van.

Creature Comforts

The Berlingo’s cab is spacious for a van of its size. It’s a bit of a squeeze if you go for the 3 seat configuration but the 2 seat configuration offers all the space you need – even on longer journeys. The dash is well laid out and everything is within easy reach. There are lots of neat storage spaces and you’ll be impressed with the list of standard features, which include satellite navigation, ABS, CD stereo, electric windows and central locking.

On the Road

If you’ve driven the old Berlingo the first thing you’ll notice is the significant reduction in engine noise. This makes a huge difference to the driving experience and gives the Berlingo a much more comfortable and refined feel. Steering is light and responsive and the 1.6HDi engine performs well both on the motorway and in urban areas.

The Verdict

The new Berlingo isn’t only a big improvement on its predecessor it also gives all of its main competitors a real run for their money. In fact, we’d argue that the extra space the Berlingo offers as well as some great standard features gives it an edge over its rivals. Overall the new Citroen Berlingo is a fantastic van leasing deal.
