The Citroen Nemo
Today Heather has a look at the new Euro5 compliant Citroen Nemo and gives us her verdict
First of all, if you think the Citroen Nemo looks familiar then you’d be right. That’s because the Nemo has been built in conjunction with both Fiat and Peugeot who both have their own near-identical versions named the Fiorino and Bipper. But lets not focus too much on looks alone because Citroen have just recently launched a new Euro 5 compliant version of the Nemo, which offers a more refined drive and greatly increased fuel efficiency. So could a new Citroen Nemo be the perfect van lease deal for your business? Let’s find out:
The Nemo clearly isn’t the biggest van in the world and is designed as a perfect urban partner or for the small independent business owner. Having said that you’ll be pleasantly surprised at just how much you can carry in the back. The overall payload is 660kg, which is made up of an internal load height of 1,180mm, load length of 1,520mm and 25 cubic meter load volume. There’s room to slide a Euro Pallet in the load area with relative ease, which is surprising for a micro van of this size. Loading and unloading is a breeze with twin rear doors and an offside side sliding door. You can also get a nearside side sliding door fitted as an extra option but for most that won’t be required. Floor mounted lashing eyes come as standard on all models and provide an easy way to secure your load and prevent it from moving around.
The LX model comes with an ‘Extenso’ option, which increases the load length to 2,500mm by folding down the front passenger seat , which is ideal if you only occasionally need to carry larger items.
For a van of its size the cabin inside the Nemo is spacious and offers a comfortable ride for both driver and passenger (providing you’re not too much over 6 foot!). The layout inside the cab is great with all knobs and dials within easy reach and really simple to operate.
All models come with CD and driver airbag as standard but we’d recommend opting for the LX or Enterprise models, which come with great additional items as standard and still offer real value for money. The LX edition comes with air conditioning, cruise control, rear parking sensors and steel bulkhead. The Enterprise edition also adds Bluetooth connectivity to the list of standard additions. Sat Nav doesn’t come as standard on any of the models yet but it does come as a surprisingly good value optional extra.
On the Road
Because of its size and the effort Citroen have put in to give this newest model a more refined drive, the Nemo has a real car-like feel on the road. It’s easy-to-drive, corners well and has really responsive steering – even with a full load in the back.
We drove the Euro 5 compliant 1.3HDi model, which is so much less noisy and more refined than previous engine configurations. It also offers unbelievable fuel efficiency with a combined 65.7mpg. The Nemo does now come with a petrol option but it’s not as efficient and we’d opt for the diesel every time.
If it’s a van of this size you’re after then you’re going to struggle to find something better on the market today. Ok so the Nemo looks identical to its Fiat and Peugeot sisters but underneath is a new Euro 5 compliant engine that offers fantastic fuel efficiency and a truly refined drive.
