Models that don't offer petrol and/or electric options received a slight point deduction, as these are considered an important choice for small vans intended for urban use.

Although models are available in various trims, engine sizes and wheelbase configurations, we will use the maximum payload figures for both the petrol and electric variants and calculate their average. Comfort and cabin ergonomics

Comfort scores are based primarily on our hands-on experience with each van, from seating support and cabin noise to layout and day-to-day usability. To ensure our impressions weren't biased or overly subjective, we cross-referenced our findings with expert reviews and real-world driver feedback.

Fuel efficiency

We focused exclusively on petrol fuel economy and electric driving range, as these powertrains are most relevant for inner-city use. WLTP combined figures supplied by manufacturers were used, and where multiple petrol engines were offered, we calculated an average to keep comparisons fair. For electric models, we used the official claimed range. These figures were then combined into a single score to highlight the most efficient small vans.

Tight manoeuvrability (turning radius)

We used manufacturer-supplied turning circle data, awarding the best figure a score of 10/10, with lower scores given to wider-turning models. Since most models offer both standard and extended versions, we took the average turning circle to ensure a fair comparison. Safety features

To assess each van's safety, we focused on its modern driver-assistance systems. We referred to the latest (2025) NCAP ratings for each model, which measure protection for adults, children, and pedestrians. Suitability for long-distance and motorway driving
